Posted August 13, 2014. People often ask me about caffeine consumption during Lyme disease. Because I had POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome-which basically means your heart is all screwed up) I didn’t consume caffeine at all when I had Lyme disease and any Lyme symptoms. Also, my resting heart rate was 120, when I was incline on the couch. I really didn’t need any additional cardiac stimulation.
So no caffeine was my approach during Lyme disease.
Now that I am recovered, I do consume a small amount of caffeine. Either I will drink one cup or two at the very most, of Brassica green tea, http://lymesymptoms.com/lyme-diet/ and I will have some raw dark chocolate (with no sugar). Of course the cacao (chocolate) has caffeine as well.
Mostly now I am careful with caffeine for two reasons: athletic performance and adrenal fatigue. Too much caffeine can mess up my heart rate during running or martial arts or other athletic endeavor and too much caffeine can cause adrenal fatigue.
So if you have Lyme disease, I would do no caffeine, if you’re recovered, I would do limited caffeine.
