Prevention Magazine and Lyme Disease

Posted April 21, 2014.  I just read in the May 2014 issue of Prevention Magazine a really interesting article about Lyme disease.  A guy wondering whether or not he still has Lyme, agrees to have non-Lyme infested ticks attached to him, to see whether or not he transmits Lyme to them!  Interesting.  The gist of the article is whether or not Lyme can persist even after antibiotic treatment.  Those of you who are still sick, know that it can.  That isn’t to say that it cannot be eradicated however

Running Partner and Lyme Disease

Posted April 21, 2014.  I was feeling a little lazy this morning… thinking about running later, but my running partner would have none of that!  If you can exercise, try to do something, even a little bit.  The ones who sustain their recovery from Lyme disease are the ones who exercise… said a famous Lyme doctor.  And don’t worry, I’m being careful about ticks!  But I’m still enjoying the great outdoors!  Try to do some exercise today!

Reborn and Lyme Disease

Posted April 19, 2014.  When I had Lyme disease and co-infections, each day I felt like I was dying.  Now each day I feel like I’m reborn.

I’m getting closer to my 4 year anniversary of no antibiotics, no herbals, no other medications and more importantly no Lyme disease symptoms! In fact the longer time passes the more athletic I become.  I took it pretty slowly in the beginning but here’s an example of what I’ve been doing this week:   Every morning early run with my 1 1/2 year old white lab (had to have a white dog, better to see any ticks that way) then a 5 or so mile hike with friends, and each day I’ve been doing a martial arts class.  I run now so I can keep up with the high intensity in martial arts (not for the faint of heart, they train law enforcement at my gym!)  You can recover from Lyme disease and feel like  you’re reborn.  I know you feel like dying now, but hang in there!!  Off to make a green juice ….

Almost Christmas, Surfing and Lyme Disease

Posted December 21, 2013.  I know it’s almost Christmas and I should be wrapping presents, but I think I’m going to go catch a wave right now!  You can be strong and vital after Lyme disease… and surf on a cool southern California morning in December.

Even if you’re still suffering from Lyme disease I wish you a very Merry Christmas!  Next year will be better.  Hang in there. Keep visualizing yourself well!

Last night I went out to dinner with friends at Duke’s of Malibu.  Here’s a little something about Duke. What a great, positive guy.  Thanks Duke for sharing your great spirit with the world.

Hawaii’s most famous citizen and the “Father of INTERNATIONAL Surfing,”
Duke Paoa Kahanamoku was born August 24, 1890 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  He grew up in carefree Waikiki with the ocean as his playground, doing what he loved – mostly swimming, surfing, canoeing and bodysurfing.

At the age of 21 he won his first Olympic gold medal, then went on to represent the United States in the Olympics for 20 years, winning not only medals but the hearts of people all over the world. He is remembered as a swimmer not just for remarkable speed, but for his grace in the water, his good humor, and his wonderful spirit.

See you in Malibu at “Duke’s!”

Slow Progress and Lyme Symptoms

Posted November 22, 2013.  When I was sick with Lyme disease I expected to be well in a couple of weeks when I finally figured it out and started antibiotics.  Whew, was I in for a surprise.  My LLMD (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor) told me I would have to be on antibiotics for at least  6 months.  I thought I was going to fall off the examining table.  6 months!  What about how horrible antibiotics are for the body, etc.?  Little did I know it would be a full year before I could even consider stopping antibiotics, herbs and other medications.

When I finally became patient with the process of healing, I finally starting seeing improvement.  It won’t happen over night.  Lyme disease and any co-infections are very hard to eradicate.  Give your body time.  Be very patient and be happy with slow progress.  And remember it is going to be one step forward and two steps back.  It often was for me.  But keep heading in the right direction.  Stay very consistent with your treatment.  If you have a good LLMD, be compliant!!  If you don’t have a good LLMD, get one post haste!

Slow progress is progress. Don’t quit!
