How NOT to Recover From Lyme Disease #2

Posted July 1, 2013.  People often ask me, which of all these pills, supplements and potions my doctor is prescribing me, do I really need to take? And I always say, if you want to half recover, or take twice as long to recover, then take half measures.  Pick and choose what your doctor wants you to take.  And by all means, if you don’t feel like taking something, don’t take it.  Good way NOT to recover.  Half measures will keep you sick, or half recovered.

If you have a credible LLMD (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor) or health practitioner, who has a great deal of experience with Lyme disease and in whom you have confidence, take what he or she tells you to take.  I know it seems overwhelming, many times I wanted to throw the new bottle of pills out the 7th story window…. but there is a method to the madness.  Ask questions, research, understand why you are taking certain things, but once you are satisfied that it’s all legitimate, take the full dose and take it when your doctor says to take it.

The Lyme spirochete and any other co-infection you may have brewing in your body will absolutely LOVE it if you take half measures.  Half the dose or half compliance means they get half the time off to regroup and multiply.

Quick Lunch, Zucchini! and Lyme Symptoms

Posted June 28, 2013.  If you want to recover 100% from Lyme disease and all Lyme symptoms, you’ve got to eat well!  Here’s an example of something really good, that’s super easy to make and will help you in your 100% recovery quest.  (And if you’re already recovered and looking for new athletic challenges, these “pancakes” will help fuel your endeavors!)

Zucchini Pancakes

Zucchini Pancakes, Recovery Food!

1 free range organic egg

1 green onion chopped, (or sometimes I use red onion, about a Tbsp)

1 medium zucchini grated

Celtic Sea Salt (don’t use regular table salt, it’s very toxic!) and Pepper to taste

1 Tbsp coconut oil

Mix all ingredients and then drop onto a pan preheated with coconut oil.  Yum!  Kind of like hash browns but way better!  They don’t turn into sugar in your body like potatoes do and the egg will give you nutrients, protein and sustained energy.  Had them as a quick lunch today.   Enjoy and be well!!

Pharmaceuticals and Lyme Symptoms

Posted June 18, 2013.  There is a really good article in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal, entitled A Nation of Kids on Speed.  (Now what does this have to do with Lyme disease you ask…. hang on, I’ll explain.)  In the article the author shows how year by year there has been a dramatic increase in the number of kids put on speed, chiefly among them, Adderall and Ritalin.  And not surprisingly this has been followed by a dramatic increase in the number of diagnoses of ADHD among children.

The American Psychiatric Association has lowered the criteria for the diagnosis and as a result put more kids on drugs.

A generation of drugged up kids.  Sad in my mind.

(By the way, this of course is not to say that if someone has a real psychiatric illness they shouldn’t receive medication.  The issue is only how overprescribed these medications are.  I believe they are harming the very people they are claiming to help. And I believe the overuse is detrimental to society as a whole.)

OK back to Lyme disease.  Many Lyme disease patients are taking various pharmaceutical drugs.

The people who I know, myself included, who have recovered from Lyme disease and all Lyme symptoms, have done it with either no psychotropics or very minimal drugs.  Of course you need antibiotics, those are good drugs when you are shooting for 100% recovery from Lyme disease and any co-infections you might have.  Antibiotics are very different from psychotropic medications or antidepressants.

What is important is to be very careful about the medications you take, and I mean specifically drugs like those mentioned in the Wall Street Journal article.  I have so many friends who medicate their boys.  Ugh.  Albert Einstein would have qualified for Ritalin or Adderall.  Thank goodness no modern pharmaceutical company ever got ahold of his mother!

Lessen the load on your body and your immune system, and your liver!  Only take those medications which are absolutely necessary to your recovery, which is already going to be a lot.  Stick to the antibiotics, herbs and supplements like vitamins and minerals to support your body.  Of course you are depressed because you have Lyme disease.  But as you recover that depression will lift.  Yes, I know you have brain fog and cognitive issues right now.  But that will pass.  Give yourself every opportunity to heal.

Wishing you, 100% Recovery.

Not Convinced: Lone Star Tick or GMO’s and Lyme Disease

Posted June 12, 2013.  In yesterday’s Wall Street Journal there is an article talking about a possible connection between a bite from the Lone Star tick and a red meat allergy.  It’s more than just Lyme disease they say.  According to the story, Lone Star tick bites trigger the creation of the antibodies to a certain sugar commonly found in meat.  There can be a delayed allergic reaction to red meat of days or months and it can result in hives and sometimes life threatening anaphylaxis.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of evidence for this connection.  I asked an LLMD friend about it and in his opinion, these meat allergies have more to do with the GMO foods people are consuming on such a widespread basis, and now for about ten years.  He says he has seen an enormous increase in food allergies over the last ten years.  He doesn’t think its coming from ticks, but good excuse.  And besides, supposedly the Lone Star tick isn’t out here in California.  (We all know how ticks obey state boarders!)

I don’t know what to think about the article.  It isn’t very compelling but maybe there will be further conclusive evidence to come.  In the meantime, I’m staying away from both the Lone Star tick and GMO foods! Let me know if you have had a Lone Star tick bite and you think there is a connection to a red meat allergy.

In the meantime, grass fed organic meats are good choices.  Not only are you not going to get animals fed GMO corn and all kinds of stuff they were never meant to eat, but you will get the proper ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids.

Is it Lone Star Tick or GMOs?

How NOT to Recover from Lyme Disease #1

Posted June 11, 2013.  A picture says a thousand words!  Bacteria and spirochetes LOVE sugar.  Borrelia burgdorferi is known to use glucose to sustain life.  This means that the organisms require and feed on sugar consumption. (Course all the nasty chemicals and GMO corn syrup etc. also do a number on your immune system.) A woman who lives in my neighborhood and swears one cannot recover 100% from Lyme disease always has one of these in her hands.  Yep, that’ll do it!
