Hills, People Around You and Lyme Symptoms

Posted January 25, 2013.  Surround yourself with good, positive people.  When I was sick with Lyme and Lyme symptoms, someone used to call me and say, “You know, people have died from Lyme disease.”  It was so bad it was almost funny.  What is that going to do for me, the sick Lyme person, lying in agony on the couch day after day?  Needless to say, I politely stopped taking her calls.

Think about who is around you, what you’re reading, what you’re thinking.  A positive influence will help get you to 100% Recovery.  Here is a great article from Runner’s World magazine:

Lyme symptoms positive people

Positive People!

….”I was reminded of an old framed sketch that sat on the bookshelf in his office when I first met him.  Someone must have sent it to him after his cancer diagnosis, it said, “God, I thank you for hills and strength for climbing.”…..

…..”Pay attention this week to the people you choose to surround you.  Look at your pack.  Do they call you to higher levels of integrity?  Do they challenge you?  Do they breathe strength into your weakness? Do they forgive you when you blow it and then keep you accountable going forward?  Do they call you out of your shame and hiding and drag you back into the light where you belong? Do they remind you who you are, when you forget or get lost?  Do they lean against you when you are leaning into something tough?  Do they know your limits and help you get more comfortable in patches of discomfort?  Do they remind you to breathe when you don’t even realize you are holding your breath?  Do they speak truth when no one else dares?  Do they whisper “yes, you can” when they somehow know the “I can’t” tape is playing in your head?  Do they remind you often enough in your journey to celebrate just how far you have already come?”…..

Rheumatologists Don’t Recognize Lyme and Lyme Symptoms

Posted January 24, 2012.  “Even some well-known rheumatologists didn’t even know what it was. That’s what’s scary – the widespread ignorance in the medical circles about Lyme disease.”  Here’s an article from a California journal about Lyme disease and the Lyme symptoms that even the best rheumatologists don’t recognize as Lyme related.  I went to several different rheumatologists who thought I had everything from RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) to ALS.  Finally I diagnosed myself and began the journey of 100% Recovery.

Ice Skating and Lyme Symptoms

Posted January 22, 2013.  Ice skating?  I spent 2 hours ice skating yesterday.  Great!  Invigorating!   On the ice talked with my friend about becoming a guide for a blind runner who wants to do marathons, 1/2 marathons, 10K’s etc.  What a far cry from lying in on the couch in misery day after day when I had Lyme disease and Lyme symptoms.

Ice Skating! Great for Gentle Recovery From Lyme Symptoms

Ice skating engages all of your muscles; quadriceps, hamstrings, abdominal and back muscles.  You need to be constantly contracting and relaxing all those formerly atrophied  muscles in order to maintain an upright posture and balance.   Balance was a big issue for me when I had Lyme disease and Lyme symptoms.  And engaging your brain is an important part of regaining your balance.  Mental fitness overall is improved as well with ice skating because you need to be constantly alert and aware.   It is very low impact and a gentle way to build back muscle tone and it could be a great, fun gradual recovery exercise if you’re still dealing with Lyme symptoms.   Plus it’s fun to hang out with the hockey players after you skate!

New Lyme Relative and Lyme Symptoms

Posted January 19, 2013.  Ugh.  New relative to Lyme, Borrelia miyamotoi is being found in patients on US shores. First discovered in Japan, then seen in Central Russia, now here in the US.  Bottom line:  be so careful with pets and when hiking, outdoors, etc.  It’s a little different than the “regular” Lyme, the first symptoms seem to be fever.
