If you have Lyme disease and are thinking of getting pregnant or are pregnant or had a baby while you had Lyme disease, you should have your baby tested for borrelia bergdorferi (the Lyme spirochete). There is a lot of credible evidence which suggests that a mother can pass the bacteria to her unborn child. Here is a recent article in the Washington Post.
